In 2018, the maximum Social Security benefit for a worker retiring at full retirement age is $2,788 a month; that is $33,456 a year. For people born from 1943 to 1954, full retirement age is 66. For those born later, full retirement age gradually increases until it reaches 67 for people born after 1959.
