The number of health savings accounts (HSAs) rose 22 percent to 16.7 million in 2015, while HSA assets reached almost $30.2 billion, a gain of 25 percent. Most HSA money is in low-yield savings deposits but $4.2 billion (14 percent of the total) is in investments, where returns might be higher. By 2018, HSA investments are projected at $9.7 billion.
